Born to Rock by Gordon Korman (who will be visiting LVMS in MARCH 2008)

Korman carries on the tradition of humor in one of his more recent publications, Born to Rock.  Leo Caraway, 4.0 student, member of the Young Republicans, and Harvard bound is surprised when his family reveals his biological father is none other than punk rock's notorious bad boy King Maggot the lead singer of Purge.  Leo finds himself experiencing the life of a rock band roadie as he tries to get to know his father and seeks financial aid from his famous biological dad.  In the process gains new insight into his own self and is surprised my some of the outcomes. 

How to Steal a Dog  by Barbara O'Connor

You will become quickly attached to Georgina and her friend Willy the little dog she steals in order to help her mother out of financial peril.  Georgina lives in a car and is wishing for a real home and a real room in the hopes of creating some normalcy to her life.  This sweet and touching story will work its way into your heart very quickly.   

This year's ALA Newbery and Caldecott Winners will be announced in January 2008!
